WHS Boys' Soccer Welcome

Hello Families and welcome to the 2020 WHS boys soccer season!

My name is Val Guse. This will be my second year as president of the boys soccer booster club and I would like to offer a big, warm welcome to the WHS boys soccer family.

For those that are new to the program this email will provide an overview of season expectations from the booster club. For returning families, there have been some big changes this season, so we ask that you read to the end. I will do my best to keep it short and to the point.

Each year the booster club has to charge an additional fee to parents outside of the school sports fee that is collected. This helps cover the cost of uniforms, training T's, player uniform socks (that they keep), among a plethora of other small costs throughout the season. Usually the banquet, team meals, and season kickoff picnics. In years past this fee has been a minimum of $100. This season we have reduced the fee taking into account the shortened season and the lack of extra events. Fees are as follows:

  • 9th grade-$50
  • B team-$50
  • JV-$50
  • Varsity-$75 ($25 extra to offset Varsity jacket costs)

We ask that you send a check made out to WHS boys soccer Booster Club Tuesday or Wednesday of this week. Cash is also welcome if placed in an envelope with your players name and team on the outside. Players can get their uniforms once they have turned in their check. If you are unable to pay, please do not hesitate to reach out to the booster club and let us know. We understand that COVID has put many families in different financial situations and we empathize with you. The booster club is a 501c3 organization and your payment is tax deductible. We also have many families working for companies that will match donations. Please check with your company as this is a great way to help cover the families that are unable to pay and support your players HS sports experience.

Each player will receive a uniform for the season (two jerseys, one pair of shorts and a pair of socks-varsity will be a little different). Please take good care of this uniform during the season. Frequent washing is absolutely necessary. Please read the tag to ensure you are washing and drying your players specific uniform appropriately. We were able to purchase brand new uniforms before last season and they are really nice but also really expensive. In order to keep booster fees at a minimum we need to care for these appropriately.

Last week the booster club approved the purchase of masks for each player  and coach. They are a 3 layer mask with polyester as the two outside layers and a cotton layer in the middle to act as a filter. They do go around the ears but are adjustable. They are school colors and are printed with the school name and logo. They are expected to arrive this week and will be placed in a bag with a sharpie so each player can label their mask. It is recommended that masks are washed frequently throughout the week. I already have these specific masks in my home and they are easy to hand wash with hot water and soap at the end of the day and hang dry overnight. We will have a few extras for purchase if you are looking to have something for games yourself or have other family members or friends that are interested. If you would prefer for your child to not have one of these masks please let your team rep know.

Due to COVID-19 it is likely we will not be able to host a banquet in November to celebrate the season. We will discuss as the season continues whether we will have a virtual banquet or the possibility of a spring banquet. Stay tuned.

We also will not be able to participate in team dinners or picnics this year to ensure the safety of our players, teams and the season. We all want the boys to play so we have to make sacrifices.

The soccer season does not run smoothly without volunteers. This year we do not need the same amount of parent involvement as in years past, due to the shortened season and lack of team events, but we still need those willing to do small tasks for their respective team.

We are currently looking for:

  • Team Photographers-We would really love to have someone set for each team. This involves going to one, or all, of the games and taking pictures of the boys in their element. Team pictures are not happening this year so this will be evidence the season occurred. If you are a photographer and want to help out more than one team we would be forever grateful!
  • Scarf and Mask Table-The booster club sells really great scarves, and now masks as well, and we would love for some parent's to step up and be willing to be at the table in the stadium to set up, sell and take down, during home games. Again, we have everything available and will make this as easy as possible.

If you are willing to help out please contact Kylie Davis, our communications chair at

She will pass along information to the appropriate people and get you started. We appreciate your help!!

Each team will have a TeamSnap page. This is where the bulk of communication will come from. Please download the app if you don't have it. The team reps will communicate this way and you may see season updates from different booster club members this way as well.

That is all I have at this time. You will see communication from your team rep soon, and the booster club will continue to update players and parents on an as needed basis. I wish your players good luck this season and I look forward to meeting many of you in volunteer roles or seeing you on the sidelines.

Should you need anything from the booster club we ask that you contact:
