Our History: A Group with a Common Passion

The Woodbury High School Student Newspaper, The Current Uproar, was founded in 2000 after a group of individuals decided to turn their shared interests into an official student organization. Since then we’ve grown in numbers and have expanded what we offer to our members.

A series of student editors have kept this club running over the years, even throughout the COVID-19 Pandemic. Our editor in the 2021-22 school year, Nikhil Jain, helped expand the club and make the paper even better than before.

During the 2022-23 school year, we introduced our first Newspaper Instagram account under the student leadership of Carson Macynski and Alexis McKim. Additionally, we welcomed retired Pioneer Press Editor Bob Shaw to our club. He helped members grow in their writing skills and we are excited to welcome him back again this year. We hope to continue to expand and gain readers this year as we build on the excellent foundation of our previous members.

Q & A

HOW OFTEN DOES the WOODBURY HIGH SCHOOL Student NEWSPAPER MEET?

The WHS Student Newspaper meets on a monthly basis throughout the whole school year. Additionally, we vote on the time and day of our meetings to accommodate our members as best as possible.

HOW DO I JOIN The student newspaper?

All you have to do is fill out the interest form and you will be added to our communications. Although we prefer members to join at the beginning of the year, we accept new members throughout the entire school year.

DO I HAVE TO BE A MEMBER TO PARTICIPATE?

Yes. Only members are allowed to participate in meetings and write articles. However, anyone can access the newspaper via the weekly announcements sent out by our principal, and it is super simple to join the club if you wish.

WILL I BE ASSIGNED AN ARTICLE TOPIC OR WILL I GET TO WRITE ABOUT WHATEVER I WANT?

You will be given the chance to assign yourself to an article topic. However, you are always be allowed to change your topic as long as it doesn't overlap with the article topics selected by other members.
