Royals start with a bang

The Royals wrestlers started out the 2018-2019 campaign in style with 3 lopsided dual victories at Robbinsdale Armstrong HS Thursday night.   Included in the team wins were the 100th career varsity wins for both Cole West and Brock Rinehart.  They became the 11th and 12th wrestlers in Woodbury history to achieve 100 wins.  In addition, Alex Braun, Ryan Holt and Raphael Orubo logged their first varsity wins.

In the opener, the Royals cruised past the host Falcons, 59-21.  Aside from 5 wins by forfeit, winning for the Royals were Cole West (100th career win, by fall), Will Bents (fall), Brady Moesenthin (tech fall), Brock Rinehart (fall) and Donald Nde (fall).

Against an undermanned Ogilvie squad, the Royals took 9 of the 14 matches by forfeit en route to a 72-9 win.  Winning matches for Woodbury were Alex Braun (fall), Sam Ellis (fall) and Cole Smutny (fall).

In the finale, Woodbury took down Eden Prairie 54-19.  Royals victories were taken by Braun (fall), Johnson (fall), Holt (fall), Bents (fall), Moesenthin (fall), Ellis (fall), Rinehart (100th career win, by fall) and Mason Barrows (fall).

On Saturday, the Royals travel to Osseo HS for an individual tournament.  Both varsity and JV will compete, with action starting at 9:00am.
