Varsity takes 17th , JV takes 26th at Fargo; Moesenthin and Willner take 7th on JV, Braun takes 6th, Rinehart wins title for Varsity

The Woodbury wrestling team placed four wrestlers at Fargo over the weekend at the Rumble on the Red, with the JV placing 26th of 52 teams and the Varsity taking 17th of 58 teams.  Thomas Moesenthin and Trenton Willner both placed 7th on the JV side with Alex Braun taking 6th on the Varsity side.  Brock Rinehart won the championship in his weight class, taking home the first varsity title in Royals wrestling history.

Moesenthin went 5-2 in his bracket with 2 pins to take 7th; Willner also went 4-2 and recorded all 4 wins by fall to also take 7th place.  Remaining records of JV wrestlers that did not place:  Caleb Howe 1-1, Kaiden Kirby 2-2, Gavin Wilson 1-2, Logan Ryan 1-2, Nick Howe 2-2, Dave Hawley 2-2, Stanley Iturrino 2-2, Dawson Baker 3-2 and Ethan Chaney 3-2.

On the Varsity side, Braun went 4-3 through a very tough bracket.  He won by fall in his opening match and a 7-3 decision in his 2nd bout.  He lost a tough 2-1 decision in a quarterfinal matchup to go into the consolation bracket.  He won a 2-0 decision and then beat the #1 ranked wrestler in ND in class A 8-4 to ensure placement.

Rinehart won his initial two bouts by fall and saw the #3 ranked MN wrestler in his quarterfinal and won by major decision, 10-2.  In his semifinal bout, he faced the #2 ranked ND wrestler in class A and won by fall to put a Royal wrestler into the finals at the Rumble for the first time in history.  Brock went up against the #1 ranked wrestler in class B in ND, edging him in a tough 13-10 match to go 5-0 and take home the championship.

Other varsity results:  Will Bents 2-2, Cade Johnson 2-2, Sebastian Zamorano 2-2, Omar Abdelal 2-2, Tre Hockenberger 0-2 and Mason Barrows 2-2.

On Thursday, January 2nd, the Royals travel to Stillwater HS to face Stillwater and Albert Lea in a triangular meet.  Action starts at 5:00pm.

On Saturday, they head south to Cannon Falls HS for the Cannon Falls Invitational, an individual tournament.  Both JV and Varsity bouts begin at 10:00am.
