The Royals opened the 2019-2020 season with some good success at the Ken Droegemueller Invitational in Osseo on Saturday.
On the junior varsity side, 8 wrestlers competed and all won at least one match. Records on the day: Izaak Farrington 1-2, Caleb Howe 2-1, Fernando Cartagena 2-1, Noah Golden 2-1, Jack Anderson 2-1, Kaiden Kirby 2-1, and both Allen Mancera and Josh Williams swept through their pools at 3-0.
In the varsity division, both Alex Braun and Brock Rinehart went 3-0 on the day and won their weight divisions. In addition, three wrestlers won their first career varsity matches: Ethan Chaney, who took 5th, Thomas Moesenthin , who took 3rd, and Brad Little, who took 2nd. The Royals have a busy week upcoming. On Thursday, they will host a quadrangular meet against Irondale, Hastings and Armstrong at Woodbury HS. Action begins at 4:30pm.
On Saturday, we will host the 6th annual Woodbury Duals and the event will be a Takedown Cancer event to benefit the Randy Shaver Cancer Research & Community Fund. Action begins at 9:00am with Woodbury going against Henry Sibley. Other teams participating: Shakopee, Annandale/Maple Lake, White Bear Lake, Grand Meadow, Rochester Mayo and Mahtomedi.
