Coach Sam Wegerbauer

I grew up in Franklin, WI where I cheered in middle school and high school.  I competed at UCA High School Nationals in 2014, 2015, and 2016.  I also assisted in coaching the Franklin Recreational Cheerleading Team my senior year of high school.

After graduating, I went on to cheer at the University of Minnesota for four years on the Co-ed cheer team from 2016-2020.  We cheered at football and basketball games and competed at UCA College Nationals.  We also participated in various appearances in the community.

This is my third year with Woodbury High School!  I aim to connect with and maintain relationships with each and every one of my athletes.  I believe in developing the 'whole' athlete mentally, physically, and emotionally and hope to teach communication and leadership skills that my athletes can take with them in the future. 

Coach Hannah Paavola

I grew up in Hopkins, MN. I began cheerleading at Planet Spirit All Stars in Golden Valley when I was nine and cheered on competitive teams there from 2007 through 2016, when I graduated high school. While I was a senior athlete at Planet Spirit, I served as an assistant coach for the Rising Stars, our program’s adaptive exhibition team, and coached summer recreation Kids Clinic programming. I also cheered on the Hopkins High School Varsity Cheerleading team 2012-2014.

Upon entering college at the University of Minnesota, I joined the Gopher Small Coed Cheerleading team and remained on the team 2016-2019. I was named the team’s female athlete MVP for my final season. After my athletic career drew to a close, I remained involved in the Gopher Spirit program as a program intern from 2019-2022, tackling everything from social media to philanthropic activity management. I also was the head coach for the Longfellow Park recreational tumbling program in South Minneapolis 2019-2020. In spring of 2023, I returned to Gopher Spirit to serve in a full-time capacity as Spirit Squad Coordinator where I currently focus on event organization, leading our athlete community service program, and managing mascot program logistics! Go Gophers!

This is my second year coaching for Woodbury Cheerleading! I am dedicated to helping student-athletes reach their athletic, academic, personal, and professional goals throughout their high school career and beyond. I’m incredibly excited to grow with my athletes this season – let’s get to work, Royals!
