Ultimate Frisbee Club

Woodbury Ultimate

What is Ultimate?

Ultimate is a non-contact, self-refereed team sport played with a 175 gram frisbee.  Often described as a cross between soccer, football and basketball, Ultimate is one of the fastest growing sports in the country. This field sport is typically played 7v7 requiring teammate to pass disc into an end-zone. This unique sport is the perfect balance of competitiveness and sportsmanship. It is also a great way to stay in shape!

How is the game played?

Two teams of seven players compete on a playing field about the same length as a football field, but narrower.  At each end of the playing field there is an end zone.  Each team defends one end zone. They score a goal if one of their players catches the disc in the opposite end zone.

The player with the disc is called the thrower. The thrower may not run with the disc.  Instead they move the disc by passing to team-mates in any direction.

The defensive team gets possession of the disc if an offensive team’s throw is not caught by a player of the same team. Then the defensive team becomes the offensive team and can try to score in the opposite end zone.

Are their referees?

Ultimate relies upon a Spirit of the Game that places the responsibility for fair play on every player. There are no referees; the players are solely responsible for following and enforcing the rules. Competitive play is encouraged, but never at the expense of respect between players, adherence to the rules, and the basic joy of play.

Let's Play

We offer both a fall and spring season of ultimate.

Fall Season

The fall season is developmental in nature. The season is lead by our spring captains. An adult chaperone is at all games.  We practice two times a week and play one game a week. The season runs from late August through the end of October, weather permitting.

Spring Season

The spring season is competitive. The season begins with indoor practices as early as February. Games start at the end of March through the end of May, weather permitting. The team plays in 2 or 3 weekend tournaments in April and May. The state tournament is the first weekend in June.
