Krystle Campa

Krystle Campa

Krystle Campa was an exceptional multi-sport athlete at Woodbury High School (WHS) during her time as a Royal.  In soccer she was a leader both on and of the field for some of the most successful high school soccer teams in WHS history.  SHE was a cornerstone performer for the Royals from the time she was a sophomore, leading the Royals to a runner-up finish in her junior year and captaining the team to a Minnesota State High School League State Championship as a senior. Krystle was a two-time All- State and All-Conference soccer standout and was a Miss Soccer finalist in 1999.  

As a basketball player, Krystle led the Royals to the state tournament as a sophomore. junior and senior while being recognized as an All-State and All-Conference performer in basketball all three seasons.

Krystle was the Athena award winner for WHS and St. Paul Pioneer Press female athlete of the year. She signed a full athletic scholarship to attend Division I Creighton University (Omaha, Nebraska) where she stood out on the women's soccer team. For the Bluejays women's soccer team. Krystle was an Academic All-American, Scholar Athlete and All-Conference performer.

In addition, during her sophomore and junior years at Creighton, Krystle was a walk-on for the women's basketball team, where she helped Creighton make appearances in the NCAA and WNIT (Final Four) basketball tournaments.

In 2004, Krystle earned a Bachelor of Science and Business Administration in Finance and graduated from Drake University Law School in Des Moines, Iowa in 2007 where she currently is a shareholder at the Davis Brown Law Firm.


Bruce Kaupa

Bruce Kaupa

As a 3-sport standout, Bruce earned nine letters in football, basketball and baseball for the Royals. He was the team MVP in football, basketball and baseball his senior year.  Kaupa averaged 24 points per game as a senior where he was recognized as an All-Conference, All-State and Honorable Mention Parade All-American selection, leading the team to the Minnesota Class AA state tournament. He ended his high school basketball career with 1,317 points scored as a Royal.

During high school, Bruce was recruited by more than 150 universities around the country in all 3 sports and decided to attend the University of Minnesota to play basketball. He joined the top recruiting class in the nation for division I basketball which included Kevin McHale, Trent Tucker, Jim Peterson, Ben Coleman and Randy Breuer. As a contributing member of the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers, Bruce was on teams that were Big Ten Champions and Runner-Up in the National Invitational Tournament.

In 1983, Bruce graduated from the University of Minnesota as a Williams Scholar.  


Jerry Simpson

Jerry Simpson

Jerry Simpson was a swim coach in District 833 for 35 years, from 1970-2005. He began teaching in 1970 and coaching swimming and diving at Park Senior High. When Woodbury High School was built and opened in 1975, he was one of the original teachers in the school teaching physical education and health and coaching the boy's and girl's swim teams. He retired in 2001 from teaching but continued to coach swimming until he passed away in 2005.

Jerry grew up in Canada (Regina, Saskatchewan) and was a Provincial Champion and Record Holder in the 100 Butterfly multiple years. He played four years of football in high school and was Captain his senior year. He was assistant coach with Head Coach Lee Ahlbrecht at Bemidji State Men's swimming & diving from 1968 to 1970 graduating with a Master's Degree in Physical Education in 1970. President of the Boy's Swimming Coaches Association from 1980 to 1982 and Vice-President the 2 years prior. He was part of the development of True Team State in Minnesota swimming. He was inducted into the MSHSCA Hall of Fame in 2009.  

Jerry was also the pool director for South Washington County Schools for the first 15 years of his teaching career, over-seeing the district pools and leading an outstanding learn-to-swim program. He was an avid master's swimmer, working out 4-5 days a week, competing in meets and setting a number of Master's State Records.  

He loved teaching and coaching and truly appreciated the great teaching staff at Woodbury Senior High. Two of his best friends - Rick Light, physics teacher and diving coach and Duane Sorenson (Park high school swimmer coached by Jerry and long-time Woodbury Girl's High School Coach) were always part of the team success. Eric Seversen, SEMS head coach since 2004, took over the boy's high school swim team mid-season the year Jerry passed away.

Married 40 years to his wife Sharon, Jerry loved his family and enjoyed swimming, vacation trips to the North Shore, playing piano, fishing trips with his son and friends, and every sport. He and his wife began the SEMS Swim Club in 1971 working with many great swimmers over many years enjoying each individual's success. Jerry and Sharon have two children, David (wife Janet) and Ann and two grandchildren, Kayla and Brad.  


Nicole Wightman

Nicole Wightman

During her time as a Royal, Nicole Wightman was a stand-out performer in numerous areas of the performing arts department. From her lead role in "Guys and Dolls" to her stand-out performance in "Two Rooms" for Woodbury High's One Act Play contest, Nicole excelled in musicals, vocal ensembles and Minnesota State High School League competitions in the arts.

As a member of the Woodbury High School Chamber Singers and Concert Choir, Nicole received the highest rating an individual or group could earn - Superior Rating - from the MSHSL all four years she represented Woodbury High School.  Additionally, as a junior in high school she was named to the All-State Choir.  

Nicole was also an active member of the Student Council, Speech Team and Woodbury High School's soccer teams during her time as a Royal.

In 1999, Nicole earned her Bachelor of Music degree from Viterbo University (La Crosse, Wisconsin) and went on tour performing for our troops at military bases around the world.  

Nicole and her husband Craig have 5-year old triplets: Lyla, Scarlet and Porter and a 4 month old Ivy.
