WHS Boys Basketball Tryout Information

Before a player can participate in tryouts the following three items must be completed:

1) Registration:  All players MUST be registered for WHS basketball through the Activities Office before they are allowed to participate in tryouts.  Parents can register players online at www.whsactivities.org  

2) Baseline Concussion Tests:  All 9th and 11th graders must complete the baseline concussion tests. One the athletic trainer has the test ready I will post for the players.  NOTE: If players participated in a fall sport and have already taken baseline concussion training, they do not need to repeat the training.  

3) Sports Qualifying Physical and paperwork:  All players MUST have a current physical and have paperwork filed with the activities office before players are allowed to participate in tryouts.  If you are unsure if your player's paperwork is up to date, you can confirm their status with the activities office by contacting Susan Garcia at 651-425-4420.  Completed Sports Qualifying Physical forms can be emailed to sgarcia1@sowashco.org, dropped off in the Activities/Attendance Office, or faxed to 651-425-4412.

PLAYERS WILL NOT be able to participate in tryouts without being registered, have a current physical and concussion tests training.

Varsity Tryout Schedule:
Monday, November 20th-Thursday, November 22nd

6:15-7:45 am & 3:30-5:30 pm

10th Grade Tryout Schedule:
Monday, November 20th-Wednesday , November 22nd
3:30-5:15 pm Activity Center #2

9th Grade Tryout Schedule:
Monday, November 13th-Thursday, November 16th
3:30-5:15 pm Activity Center #1

Tryouts:

9th Grade:  Monday, November 11th-Thursday, November 14th

3:30-5:30 p.m. Activity Center

10th Grade:  Monday, November 18th-Wednesday, November 20th

3:30-5:30 p.m. Activity Center

Varsity:  Monday, November 18th-Wednesday, November 20th

6:00 a.m.-7:45 a.m. & 3:30-5:30 p.m. Main Gym

 

Players will be evaluated during tryouts on the following skills:

-Shooting, Dribbling, Passing, Rebounding, Intangibles (Basketball IQ, effort, teamwork, timeliness, attitude and coachability), and academic standing.  There will be a component of past performance that can be added to evaluation.  9th and 10th grade teams will have between 12-16 players and Varsity/JV will have between 15-18 players.  Each coach will pick the players that are the best fit for their team.

Parents:  Please observe a 24 hour (at a minimum) communication policy regarding tryouts.  If you have questions or concerns, direct them to your player's coach.
