Summer Baseball

General Information

Woodbury High School Baseball provides 2 levels of summer baseball teams for players within the WHS Baseball Program.  The two levels are 16U & 18U American Legion Tier 1 (Varsity) Woodbury Blue District 3 Sub State 5.  The teams are coordinated and determined by Coach McDermott in early May.  Registration for summer baseball takes place in early May and a fee of $600 ($150 refundable after volunteering to work a shift at the Gopher Classic) is due to WHS HomeRun Club and can be paid via Venmo or check and given to Coach McDermott. The fee covers all practice sessions, league fees, tournament fees, umpire fees, equipment and uniforms.

The teams compete during the summer in a format that is very similar to traveling baseball.  Both teams will play a regular season league schedule, 2 metro tournaments, and each team will also compete in a postseason tournament for a chance to participate in the state tournament(no 16U state tourney).  The season runs from early June to late July or early August, if the team(s) qualify for State(no state for 16U). Regular season games are typically played on weekday evenings and most often start at either 4, 5, 6 or 7 pm.

4 main summer goals for our Woodbury High School Baseball Program (the main goal is development)……………..

  1. Develop individual skills – offensive, defensive, pitching
  2. Develop understanding of team/program skills & philosophies
  3. Learn to compete and COMPETE THE WOODBURY WAY!
  4. Continue to foster our Core Value of Family/Togetherness and have our players play together in a more relaxed atmosphere that allows them to develop their identity as players and a team.

  5. Allow our WHS staff to work with, develop, and evaluate players so we can give them a proper evaluation of where they are at in our program going into the next year.
