The Royals took 2 of 3 dual matches on Saturday at Bloomington Kennedy HS, losing only to a tough Hastings team in their opening matchup.
In the Hastings match, it was a tale of two halves. The Royals jumped out to an impressive 20-0 lead on a Cole West decision, a Brady Moesenthin major decision and pins by Brock Rinehart and Austin Braun. However, Hastings took the remaining matches and beat the Royals, 34-27.
Against Irondale in the consolation bracket, the Knights forfeited 5 matches and 6 wins by fall (Braun, MJ Okada, Gavin Bradley, Zane Schaffer, Andrew French and John Gardiner) closed out the scoring in an impressive 60-15 Royals victory.
In the 5th place match against Champlin Park, Moesenthin won by fall, Okada won by decision, Schaffer got his 2nd pin of the day and French and Alex Mancera both won by fall. It was Mancera's first varsity win. The Royals took 5th place in the tournament with a 51-27 victory.
The Royals will head to Robbinsdale Armstrong HS both Friday and Saturday this weekend. On Friday, they will face Armstrong, Osseo and Harding in a quadrangular. On Saturday, the Royals will participate in the annual Armstrong Duals. Action starts at 5pm on Friday and at 9am on Saturday.
