Math League Description

Math Team is a group of students that meet together once a week to solve challenging math problems and competes in 5 conference meets per year against other schools.  If we win the section or place high enough in the state, there is a STATE TOURNAMENT.  Any student with a strong mathematical background is invited to be a team member.

At practices, students will solve math problems in the following 4 areas of study:  Algebra 1/Number Theory, Geometry,  Algebra 2 and Trigonometry/Pre-Calculus.  Practices are 1 hour long and are held weekly from October-March.

During a meet, each student will take 2 timed individual tests and the scoring team (8 varsity members) will take a timed team test.  Each student must choose 2 tests from the following topics:
  • Number Theory & Algebra
  • Geometry
  • Algebra 2
  • Pre-Calculus/Trigonometry
Practices will begin immediately after school starting the first Monday in October.  We will then have Practice every Monday until the season ends.  Practices will be held in Mrs. Castleberry's Room # 165.  Email Mrs. Castleberry at: ccastleb@sowashco.org   if you are interested.

The  Math Team Schoology Group page (email Mrs. Castleberry for the code) has our yearly calendar.

There is a $40 fee to be on Math Team.
