5701 Stillwater Blvd N, Stillwater, MN 55082

Dimensions: LF-, CF-, RF

Ballpark atmosphere:

Because most of the fencing has wind guards’ spaces to sit and actually see the game are limited to behind home plate and around the dugouts.  Thus, most of the spectators either sit in the bleachers or in lawn chairs next to the bleachers. As a result, fans from both teams sit in close proximity to one another. This has not been problematic as the fans are respectful of one another. Just a good thing to keep in mind as you are discussing the action on the field.

Stillwater normally has good size crowds for the games, which helps to create a good ball game viewing experience. In addition, the foul ball area behind home plate is one of the smallest in the SEC. Although this might not be good news for pitchers, for the fans it adds to the viewing pleasure as they are closer to the action.

Players Take: The Royal alums/players rate the Ponies field as their 4th favorite field to play on in the SEC.  They like how close the bleachers and dugouts are to home plate and that the sun is to the batters back at game time.

Rest Room Accommodations:

Port-a-potty located in the left-field corner.

Shade:

The good news is there are plenty of mature trees near the ballfield.  The bad news, most are located on the first base/right field line (home dugout) opposite the visitor's dugout on the third-base side.

There are a couple of decent size pine trees along the left-field line for shade but they are rather far down the line and because of wind guards on the fencing, the view is obstructed. Not to mention this is where the bullpens are located as well.

Seating/Visitor Dugout Location:

There is plenty of seating in the grandstand.  The Royals (visitor) dugout is along the third baseline.

 Parking/walking distance:

A good news, bad news scenario.  The good news is there is plenty of parking in the school parking lot.  The bad news, the walk to the field is as long as any in the SEC.  The best place to park is actually a small dirt road that leads to the high school’s grounds maintenance garage.  However, usually the gate allowing you access into this area is closed.

If parking in the high school parking lot, the best location is the lot near the football stadium and tennis courts.

Food:

Another reason games at Stillwater are enjoyable to watch. Stillwater has on-site concessions at the field which includes items made on the grill. A rarity within the SEC, you can enjoy a hotdog, popcorn, and beverage while watching the game. Stillwater concessions are as good as any in the SEC.

Places to eat before/after the game:

If you want to grab something quick and close to the field there is a SA directly across from the high school as well as a Kowalski’s with a full deli and sushi bar.  If you go straight down Neal Avenue South you will find plenty of chain restaurants: Arbys, Chipotle, Rudy Tuesday, and Applebees.

If you are looking to make a night of it after the game Phil’s Tara Hideaway is as good as it gets.  If it is a hot spring/summer night Nelson’s Ice Cream can’t be beaten for an after game ice cream cone.  You will need to bring cash as Nelson's does not accept credit cards or checks.
