550 S Albert St, St Paul, MN 55116

Dimensions: LF-, CF-367, RCF-343, RF-309, short fence in right field so a good hit has a decent chance of hitting the school.

Ballpark atmosphere:

Cretin-Derham High School is located on the corner of Randolph and Hamline avenues in St. Paul.  More accurately and perhaps fittingly the school’s baseball field, Shrode's Field, is located on the corner of Randolph and Hamline, while the school sits just south/behind the baseball field.

The field is unique in that it is in the midst of a neighborhood and is surrounded by the school, businesses, and houses.  As you can see from the photos to the right, a fence/sidewalk runs along the left-field line and is a great place to stand and watch the game.

Players Take: With a chance to hit a homerun into the school (left-handed hitters) or the stores across the street (right-handed hitter), the Royals players rate Cretin's field as their second favorite place to play in the SEC. The only field rated higher of course, is Royal Field.

Rest Room Accommodations:

There is a port-a-potty located down the right-field line near the school.  A trip across Randolph to Lucky’s gas station might be a closer and more pleasant experience.  However, depending upon who is working you may be asked to make a purchase before you are allowed to use the restroom.

Shade:

The shade is plentiful as mature well-established trees line both the right-field line and the sidewalk along the left-field line.

Seating/Royal’s Dugout Location:

There is plenty of seating and the bleachers are your standard hard aluminum with no backrests.  There is space to pitch your folding lawn chair.  The visitor’s/Royal’s dugout is on the third-base side.

 Parking/walking distance:

The best place to park in is the parking lot between Holy Spirit Catholic Church and the high school.  There is also residential parking on Albert Street.  Finally, parking is also available in the school’s main lot, however, this will be the greatest walking distance to the field.

Food:

There are no on-site concessions.  If in the need for snacks and beverages a quick trip to Lucky’s gas station across Randolph Avenue down the left-field line will fill the need.

Places to eat before/after the game:

If you want to eat near the ball field “The Nook” and “The Randolph Griddle” are across the street from the ball field.  However, The Randolph Griddle closes at 2 pm on weekdays.  The Nook does feature a “Juicy Lucy.”

Located about a mile east of the field and a favorite of the Sweeny and Meyer families is the “Rusty Taco.”
